(Click here for the Microsoft Word version of this Newsletter + Annual Subscription Application Form)

The Runswick Bay Association would like to welcome any new members to our village community giving brief details about the work of the Association. It was originally formed to raise funds for the village & to act as a body with the interests and welfare of the whole village Community as its main objectives. It has an elected committee whose aim is to deal with the administration of these objectives the present committee consists of the following:
Chairman: Barrie Smith
Vice Chairman: Robert Bezemer
Treasurer: Neil Anderson
Secretary: Julie Fearnley

General committee members: Sonia Anderson, Sue Bailey Jane Bezemer, Richard Cole, Helen Smith, Judy Jackson, Marj MacKenzie, Ian Picknett, Giles Pinkney, Joe Romanes, Harry Rowe, Ann Taylor and Dennis Whiteley.

Over the years the Association has helped to raise funds to renovate and maintain the village institute building and given donations to other organisations in the village, such as the Rescue Boat, Chapel and Boat Park, when need arose. The committee endeavours to deal with any problems brought to their attention that may affect the whole community. During the last year the Association committee has arranged meetings with Scarborough Borough Council, Yorkshire Water and the Superintendent of the whole community in Runswick Bay. We are also in regular contact with the County Council, National Park Authority, Parish Council, and other similar bodies on behalf of the residents of Runswick Bay.

The open meeting with Scarborough Borough Council was to inform us of their proposals regarding further sea defences at Runswick Bay and we will be kept informed of significant developments relating to this matter.

Yorkshire Water’s open meeting was for them to update us on their future proposals to rectify the problems being encountered with the waste water scheme at Runswick Bay. You will all have received correspondence from Yorkshire Water setting out details of the discussions at that meeting.

Unfortunately our meeting with the Superintendent of the local circuit of the Methodist Church did not bring good news for the future of the Chapel at Runswick Bay. The wheels are in motion through the circuit for the eventual sale of the Chapel and despite all our efforts in the past unfortunately we can do nothing to alter the situation. We will, however, endeavour to acquire all manageable items if sentimental value to the village if at all possible.

The Annual General Meeting of the Association is held in the Institute each year on Spring Bank Holiday Sunday, 25 May at 12 noon, and all residents are welcome to attend this meeting. The annual subscription of £5 per household is collected at the General Meeting, or can be forwarded to Mr Barrie Smith, Brackney Cottage, Runswick Bay, using the attached slip. We look forward to meeting any new members at the Annual General Meeting on Sunday 25 May.
